Acceptable use

KAAM works because a household will let a stranger into their home on the strength of what they read here. Any post that makes that less safe, or less honest, is the thing this policy is about.

• Something illegal - Stolen goods, weapons, drugs, or anything else against the law.
• Sexual or explicit - Nudity or sexual content.
• Violence or threats - Threatening, abusive or violent material.
• Abuse or harassment - Targeted at someone, or hateful about who they are.
• Scam or fraud - Trying to take money or details dishonestly.
• Someone's private information - A door number, a car registration, a document, a face - anything that identifies a person or their home without their say.
• Nothing to do with the job - Not the work being described, or misleading about it.

The one to read twice is other people’s private information. A photo of a job often has more in it than the job: a house number, a car registration, a neighbour at a window, a letter on a table. Take the picture of the problem, not of the people.

• Do not claim a qualification, registration, insurance or accreditation you do not hold. KAAM checks the ones that matter and states plainly what a badge means.
• Do not post a job you do not intend to have done, to collect prices or to see what a rival charges.
• Do not write, buy or arrange reviews - of yourself or of anyone else. Fake reviews are unlawful and they are the fastest way off KAAM.
• Do not use someone else’s photographs of work as your own.

Be civil, including when you are unhappy. Abuse, threats, or hostility towards someone because of who they are ends accounts. Pressing someone for personal information they have not offered, or contacting them after they have asked you not to, is harassment whatever it is about.

• No scraping, crawling or bulk collection of jobs, profiles or prices.
• No attempt to see another professional’s response, or to get round the limits on your plan.
• No probing for security holes. If you find one, tell us at safety@kaam.uk and we will thank you for it.
• No uploading a file that would run something in someone’s browser. Uploads are checked by their actual contents, not by what the filename says, so this fails rather than succeeds.

Nothing you post is read by a person before it appears. KAAM is not moderated in advance, and we do not run a machine over your photos guessing at what is in them - a classifier that blocks an honest job because a picture of a damp wall looked wrong would do more harm than the problem it catches.

What we do instead is check the shape of every upload automatically - that a file is the type it claims to be, that an image is an image - and act on what people report. Every photo, message and profile carries a report route, and every report reaches a person. See safety and reporting.

Depending on what it is, and whether it has happened before:

• The content is removed, and the person who posted it is told what and why.
• A warning, on the account.
• Suspension of a service, or of the whole account.
• Closure, permanently.
• Where it is a crime or someone is at risk, a report to the police or the relevant authority.

Every decision is recorded against the name of the person who made it. If you think we got it wrong, say so at complaints@kaam.uk and a different person will look at it.
